Structure fire destroys homes under construction east of Calgary

A large structure fire broke out the Cambridge area of Conrich, east of Calgary, late Thursday afternoon, damaging homes under construction.

Fire crews battled a large structure fire east of Calgary after flames tore through a homes under construction Thursday afternoon.

Rocky View County Fire Services confirmed that firefighters from Rocky View County, Chestermere and Calgary responded shortly after 3 p.m. and remain on scene throughout the afternoon working to contain the blaze in the Cambridge area of Conrich.

Video circulating on social media showed at least one home under construction fully engulfed in flames and destroyed.


Rocky View County says two houses under construction were extensively damaged, and three other houses sustained exterior damage.

All residents in the immediate area were safely evacuated. No injuries have been reported.

Firefighters focused on preventing the fire from spreading to neighbouring properties. In an update just before 4 p.m., the county said the fire was considered under control.

Roads east of Range Road 285 and Cambridge Boulevard were closed to allow emergency crews to operate, but reopened around 5 p.m.

Investigators are working to determine the cause of the fire.
