‘Pause for Pets’: Meet Percy!

By CityNews Staff

In this week’s Pause for Pets, we introduce you to a cat who has been in foster care since he was a kitten. And now, he’s nearly three years old and still looking for his people.

His given name is Perceval. But let’s just call him, Percy.

On paper, this handsome tabby is pretty much perfect, friendly, fun and good with any kind of creature. We’re talking cats, dogs and humans.

In person, he’s even better – which makes it all the more odd that he’s waited so long to find his forever home, says Rachael Finseth with Cats Home Foundation.

Percy has spent his entire life in several foster homes after his mom got sick just days after he was born.

“He was transferred to us from another organization when he was only three-days old,” Finseth says. “Unfortunately, his mom was hospitalized with pneumonia and wasn’t able to take care of him and we do have a kitten nursery program. We have an incubator and we are able to tube feed. So, they transferred him to us just for extra care.

“Unfortunately, he also developed pneumonia and had a really rough go for the six months of his life with recurring symptoms.”

Today, Percy is two years and nine months old.

He’s healthy, happy and been in and out of several foster homes.

While that’s just fine, finding a home to call his own is still the goal.

“He is used to change and really just an awesome, fun guy,” she says.

Cats Home Foundation does about 150 rescues and permanent placements every year — Percy being one of its longest-term cats up for adoption.

There have been a few meet-and-greets but “unfortunately, he has always been the second choice.”

As for his health, Finseth says he has the green light by the vet and is on medication for chronic sinusitis which is stable.

“He has a little bit of a cold all the time but it’s really well controlled with daily medications,” she says.

Adoption fees for cats over seven months is $175. All cats are spayed or neutered, microchipped, given basic vaccinations, dewormed and given at least one vet visit.
