‘Goblin: Gala’ swarms stage for Calgary’s High Performance Rodeo

If you are looking for a robust preview, this is not it.
If you are looking for certainty, the goblins are not interested.
On Jan. 22, One Yellow Rabbit hands the keys to the High Performance Rodeo for “Goblin: Gala,” a one-night-only, unscripted fundraiser at the Martha Cohen Theatre, featuring Wugg, Kragva and Moog.
They are goblins from “below below,” and claim they enter the human world through closets and under beds.
And for the show, they are bringing a human with them.
That human is Ryan Belleville, whom Kragva is snatching away for Wednesday — uncertain if he has provided consent.
There is no script; in fact, the plan only goes so far as saying the goblins will be learning improv — and Belleville will be there.
So what can you expect?
“People can expect to not expect anything,” is what Kragva says, while Wugg simply adds its “shenanigans.”
“This is the problem with humans. Oh, we need to know what to expect. It’s not living. It’s not life,” Kragva says.
“It’s a surprise. It’s a surprise,” Wugg adds.
“Remember surprises?”

The goblins say they agreed to the gala because they respect the members of One Yellow Rabbit. “The rabbits maintain their dignity,” one noted.
This is high praise, apparently.
Guests are encouraged to dress up. Belleville is encouraged to survive the experience.
Goblin: Gala runs January 22 as part of High Performance Rodeo. It is intended for ages 16 and up. It is not suitable for children. It is probably not suitable for people who like knowing what’s going to happen.
