There’s an important date change in the John Ware School class action lawsuit involving former Calgary Board of Education employees.

Victims of two former Calgary public school teachers now have more time to join a multi-million-dollar class action lawsuit settlement.

In November, the Calgary Board of Education reached an agreement with the complainants, who said they were abused by Michael Gregory and Fred Archer, who taught at John Ware School between 1988 and 2004.

Earlier this month, a lawyer representing the plaintiffs said about 50 people had joined the class action ahead of the original Jan. 26 deadline.

The deadline has since been extended to Feb. 26, at which time class counsel will apply to the court for the final approval of the $15.7 million payout from the CBE.

Class counsel will also apply to be paid for their time work on the action.

Gregory died several years ago, shortly after police announced charges against him. The second teacher named in the lawsuit, Fred Archer, now 80, is currently facing trial on sexual assault allegations.
