Man in 90s in critical condition after being hit while on mobility scooter in SW Calgary

Calgary Police are out with more details on Wednesday’s collision between a vehicle and motorized scooter.

A man in his 90s remains in hospital in critical condition after he was hit while riding a mobility scooter in Calgary’s southwest Wednesday afternoon.

Police say around 1:30 p.m., a 2024 Ford F-150, driven by a man in his 80s, was travelling south on 14 Street SE in the left lane, approaching Colborne Crescent SW.

At the same time, a man in his 90s, who was using a mobility scooter, was crossing Colborne Crescent northbound in an unmarked crosswalk.

The truck made a left turn and hit the scooter, throwing the man from his seat.

He was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Police say the driver of the truck stayed at the scene and wasn’t hurt.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing, however it is not believed that speed or impairment were factors.
