Alberta Health Services, AUPE reach tentative agreement for general services workers

By CityNews Staff

A tentative agreement has been reached between Alberta Health Services and its general services workers, and the union representing those workers is recommending they vote ‘yes.’

The offer was negotiated between AHS and AUPE on Thursday, the union says.

Included in the tentative agreement are wage increases retroactive to April 1, 2024, improved benefits, severance and job security provisions, an assured living wage by April 2027, and pay increases tied to years of service.

The general wage increase for all employees in the bargaining unit is three per cent from 2024 to 2027.

Members will vote online from Feb. 4 to 6 to either accept or reject the offer.

Ahead of that vote, the union will hold two telephone town hall meetigs on Feb. 3 to discuss the details of the agreement.

AUPE says more than 27,000 members have been in negotiations with AHS since February 2024, which resulted in both parties entering formal media in October 2025.

Union president Sandra Azocar says this tentative agreement is a win for AUPE health care workers.

“To say this was a hard-won fight is an understatement,” she says. “We have been working short-staffed and battling privatization and budget cuts for years.”
