Police seek help identifying masked gunmen after targeted shooting in NE Calgary

Police are asking for help after two masked men opened fire on a northeast Calgary home late last month in what investigators believe is the latest incident linked to a growing extortion campaign targeting the South Asian community.

Officers say the shooting happened around 11:30 p.m. on Jan. 24, when two unidentified males approached a home on Redstone Common NE in the community of Redstone and fired multiple shots into the unoccupied home.

No injuries were reported.

The suspects were seen fleeing across a nearby field before getting into a dark-coloured sedan, believed to be a 2003–2008 Toyota Corolla with black rims, and leaving the area.

Police combed the neighbourhood for evidence and reviewed extensive security footage. Investigators believe the attack was targeted and connected to an ongoing extortion series that has increasingly shaken Calgary’s South Asian community.

Since early 2025, police have recorded 21 extortion cases tied to the series, including 11 shootings. Concerned residents gathered at a townhall last week to hear from police on the issue.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 403‑266‑1234 or submit information anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
