A man in his 70s has died from his injuries after a crash between a car and a school bus last week in south Calgary.
Emergency crews were called to the intersection of Macleod Trail S and 99 Avenue around 3:40 p.m. Wednesday for reports of a two-vehicle collision.
Police say a 2008 Toyota Corolla was turning left from northbound Macleod Trail when it crossed into the path of a southbound school bus carrying roughly 20 students.
The bus struck the Corolla on the passenger side before crashing into a traffic signal pole.
Images from the scene showed the front end of the bus heavily crumpled and the Corolla severely damaged in the middle of the intersection.
According to the Calgary Fire Department, both drivers were trapped in their vehicles. The Corolla driver, a man in his 70s, was transported to hospital with life‑threatening injuries.
The school bus driver was taken to hospital with serious injuries. None of the students were injured.
In an update on Tuesday, police say the driver of the Corolla died from his injuries. It marks the city’s eighth traffic fatality this year.
Police have said speed and impairment are not believed to be factors. The investigation is ongoing.
