Calgary’s Ranchman’s will leave current Macleod Trail location in 2027 after 54 years

An iconic Calgary Landmark is planning a major move after 54 years of music, dancing, and rodeo. Phoenix Phillips reports.

An icon of Calgary’s country music scene says changes are coming.

Ranchman’s Cookhouse & Dancehall announcing Thursday 2026 will be the last year at it’s historic location on Macleod Trail SE.

The dancehall says it will be relocating to another spot on Macleod Trail in early 2027, but didn’t give details on exactly where.

In a post to social media Ranchman’s says the move is part of a planned redevelopment of the property, which has been home to the venue since 1972.

“Ranchman’s has been a Stampede hot spot, a launchpad for Canadian country artists, and a defining home for Calgary’s country music, country dance, and rodeo community for 54 years,” it says.

Nothing will change this year, and the business says it will continue offering live country music, touring artists, dance lessons, acoustic showcases, corporate events and Stampede celebrations through 2026.

But, the this year’s Calgary Stampede, which runs from July 3-12, will be the last at the current location.

“2026 will be a milestone year for us,” said Ranchman’s director of marketing, Wendy Daniel. “We’re planning for a full calendar of concerts, community celebrations, and special events to recognize what this building has meant to Calgary.

“We intend to send it off properly, with out stage active and our dance floor full.”

Ranchman’s says it has been working with the development and property management team, Deveraux Group of Companies and Lansdowne Equity Ventures, to support a “thoughtful and well-planned transition.”

It adds that the redevelopment includes a new home for Ranchman’s so that it can continue to serve the city’s country music, country dance, and rodeo community.

“We understand how important Ranchman’s has been to Calgary for decades and we want to pay homage to its legacy,” said Denis Jones, president and CEO of Deveraux. “The proposed redevelopment, named Ranchman’s Village, is about reinvesting in this section of Macleod Trail corridor while making sure the character and stories that matter to the community continue.”

Daniels says more details about signature 2026 events and the 2027 transition will be announced in the coming months.

“We’re proud of where we’ve been,” she said. “We’re excited about where Ranchman’s is going next and look forward to sharing more in the months ahead.”

Like many businesses, Ranchman’s was shut down during the pandemic and ended up being put up for lease in September 2020.

Some of the items from the beloved location — like the mechanical bull and a party bus — were even put up for auction.

The location was taken over by new owners and reopened in 2022.
