Alberta Mountie hurt after suspected impaired driver crashes into police cruiser

An Alberta mountie was taken to hospital late Thursday night after a suspected impaired driver slammed into his parked police vehicle.

on Highway 2, just south of Innisfail.

The collision happened around 11:30 p.m. on Highway 2, just south of Innisfail, while the officer was sitting inside his cruiser completing paperwork from an earlier crash.

According to RCMP, a white Ford Explorer struck the parked police car with enough force to cause significant damage.

Police say the 26‑year‑old Edmonton woman driving the Explorer showed signs of alcohol impairment and was arrested at the scene. Breath samples later indicated she was nearly twice the legal limit.

The injured officer was taken to hospital with non‑life‑threatening injuries. RCMP say he remains admitted for testing and treatment.

The driver is facing two charges, including impaired operation causing bodily harm and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm.

She has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court in March.
