15 people escape from NE Calgary industrial fire: CFD

A call for more firefighters was made to tackle a blaze and evacuate 15 people from businesses in an industrial area on Sunday.

The Calgary Fire Department said crews responded to calls of a building fire in an industrial area on 31 Street and 14 Avenue NE at around 12 p.m.

The size of the fire, along with hazardous materials being found inside the building, led firefighters to call a second alarm to support the incident.

Crews and Calgary police officers searched the area and evacuated nearby businesses, with all 15 people escaping unharmed.

They say EMS assessed them for smoke inhalation, but no one was taken to hospital.

The cause of the fire is still unknown.
