Two dead after carbon monoxide call in NE Calgary

Tragic news out of the northeast Calgary community of Rundle as two people die in carbon monoxide incident. Phoenix Phillips reports.

Two people are dead after fire crews responded to a carbon monoxide call in northeast Rundle early Tuesday morning.

Calgary Fire Department spokesperson Alex Kwan says crews arrived at around 1:30 a.m. outside a home along Rundlecairn Way NE.

“The ambulance crew was on scene performing CPR on two people in the alley behind that address,” he told 660 NewsRadio.

The fire department says the two patients were initially found in a detached garage at the back of the home and then moved to the alley.

Fire crews assisted paramedics, who arrived at around 1 a.m., with CPR. One person was pronounced dead at the scene, while the second was rushed to hospital in life-threatening condition where they later died.

Kwan says crews detected carbon monoxide levels of 300 parts per million in the garage, noting they typically evacuate at 50 parts per million.

He says the source of the carbon monoxide may have been a car running in the garage. However, neither vehicle was running when crews arrived at the home.

Calgary police say that because the deaths have been deemed non-criminal, no further information will be released.
