The Alberta NDP announced first set of candidates for the next provincial election Sunday.

All five candidates named are current MLAs in Edmonton and Calgary areas:

  • Sarah Hoffman for Edmonton-Glenora
  • Samir Kayande for Calgary-Elbow
  • Peggy Wright for Edmonton-Beverly-Clareview
  • Lizette Tejada for Calgary-Klein
  • Julia Hayter for Calgary-Edgemont

In a press release releasing the first slate of candidates, party leader Naheed Nenshi, said, “The Alberta NDP is ready for the next campaign.”

The party criticized the Danielle Smith’s UCP government as being “stuck on the wrong priorities” after seven years in power.

“Across Alberta, people are hungry for change and want to be part of it,” said Nenshi.

The party said more nominations will be announced in the coming days.
