Calgary fire crews called to a parkade fire at the Sandman Signature Hotel in the city’s SW early Monday morning.

Calgary fire crews had to put out a blaze at a downtown hotel Monday morning after couches left in the parkade were set on fire.

Alex Kwan with the Calgary Fire Department says calls came in around 8 a.m. for reports of heavy smoke on 8 Street and 7 Avenue SW.

People in affected areas were evacuated while fire crews investigated the parkade.

No injuries were reported.

The building’s sprinkler system put out the flames, but smoke triggered building-wide alarms.

Firefighters searched all of the hotel’s floors and confirmed there were no other fires or hazards.

The building has been deemed safe and all occupants have been allowed to return to the building.

A fire investigator is on scene and has started looking into the incident.
