49 fugitives arrested in Alberta during 3-day ‘multi-agency sweep’

A suspect wanted Canada-wide who’s been evading capture for several years, and another wanted in Alberta on an assault with a weapon charge are among the 49 fugitives arrested by police during a three-day operation last week.

Authorities say 118 arrest warrants were executed across 34 communities during the March 2-4 operation led by the Fugitive Apprehension Sheriffs Support Team (FASST) of the Alberta Sheriffs.

Alberta Sheriffs say members from multiple police forces – including the RCMP and the Edmonton Police Service – split into four teams to make the arrests.

Among the fugitives taken into police custody was Stephane Beaumont, a 43-year-old from Quebec who was wanted Canada-wide by Correctional Service of Canada for allegedly breaching parole.

Also arrested was 35-year-old Jordan Winnie, wanted for assault with a weapon, mischief and four separate failures to attend court; and 63-year-old Darrell Morin, considered a prolific offender allegedly linked to thefts targeting oil well lease sites in central Alberta.

“This operation sends a clear message to wanted fugitives in Alberta: you cannot outrun the law,” said Minister of Public Safety Mike Ellis in a news release. “Whether individuals try to evade justice or ignore court orders, they will be found and held accountable.”
