On the second day of returning water restrictions, some Calgarians are having more issues than others, thanks to localized water breaks in their neighbourhoods.
The city says 35 homes are impacted in Temple due to a break at 32 Templeby Road NE.
That incident was posted to the city website just before 8 a.m. Tuesday; although the break is reported to have began Monday evening.
It is reported to be in the ‘investigation’ phase.
No further details are available on this incident so far.
In the southwest community of Haysboro, at least eight homes are thought to be impacted thanks a water main break at 263 Haddon Road SW.
Alex Kwan with the Calgary Fire Department says crews were called to that break just before 6 a.m. Tuesday.
“Two homes were impacted — there was significant water getting into their basement,” he explained. “A third home did have some water overland flooding into their window wells.”
Kwan says that city water services personnel were on site before the fire department and it took them about two hours to isolate the water main and pipe and shut it off.
Photos from the area show water pooling on the streets, which has caused other issues.
“We’re getting sanding trucks — there’s quite a bit of ice buildup around that area from the water,” Kwan said.
Responding crews have set up sump pumps on site to deal with flooding. Those living in the impacted homes haven’t been displaced.
Water wagons have been deployed to both locations for area residents to use.
Another break was reported around 11:30 a.m. in the community of Acadia. The city says it is impacting one business at 9700 Bonaventure Dr SE.
This comes as Calgarians contend with Stage 4 water restrictions due to repairs being completed on the Bearspaw South Feeder Main.
Restrictions returned on Monday and are expected to last four weeks.
During this time, Calgarians are asked to limit their water use by 25 litres per day, for city-wide usage at 500 million litres or less.
