Calgary man charged in $450K drug seizure

A significant drug seizure took place in the community of Cochrane, northwest of Calgary.

A Calgary man is facing charges after an investigation by Cochrane RCMP led to a seizure of a significant amount of drugs.

Police say it started in April of last year, when the Cochrane RCMP Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) and the RCMP Federal Policing Northwest Region starting looking into a man they believed to be trafficking drugs between Calgary and Lethbridge.

On Feb. 26, 2026, RCMP found a vehicle associated with the suspect at problem address on Stoney Nakoda First Nation. The vehicle was towed after the registered owner claimed it had been taken from them without consent.

The investigation confirmed officers’ suspicions that the man was trafficking drugs within the Stoney Nakoda First Nation community.

Police were eventually led to a storage locker in Airdrie that belonged to the suspect. On March 9, officers searched the locker and found 1.4 kilograms drugs. The suspect wasn’t there at the time of the search, investigators add.

On March 11, the suspect went to a tow yard in Cochrane where the vehicle removed from Stoney Nakoda First Nation was being stored. Various police agencies started had eyes on him at this time.

Even more officers were called to the scene to help, including RCMP Police Dog Services and Calgary Police Services HAWCS.

The suspect got out of his vehicle and started walking away while carrying a bag. Officers moved in and arrested him.

Police searched the bag and found 2.7 kilograms of drugs.

Seized from the suspect by police were 581.2 grams of suspected fentanyl; 1041 grams of suspected cocaine; 2472.4 grams of suspected methamphetamine; 2.2 grams of suspected carfentanil; and $6,798 of Canadian currency.

The estimated street value of the drugs is $450,000.

Forty-two-year-old Dylan Watson has been charged with several crimes related to drug trafficking.

He was remanded into custody following an initial hearing. His most recent court appearance was last week.
