A current Calgary city councillor, a former councillor, and the city’s previous mayor are reportedly all involved in an RCMP corruption investigation.

Outside council chambers on Tuesday, during a lunch break from the blanket rezoning public hearing, Ward 10 Coun. Andre Chabot confirmed that officers had come to his home last Thursday with a warrant.

“I have no idea what the investigation is about. [What] I do know is I was asked to provide my devices for them to look at to gather evidence,” Chabot told reporters. “That’s about a much as I know.

“I’m co-operating, I hope it can be something they can utilize.”

CBC reports multiple unnamed sources with knowledge of the investigation have confirmed Chabot had his cellphone seized as part of a RCMP corruption investigation prompted by a complaint made to the Calgary Police Service (CPS) in October 2025.

According to the report, several search warrants and production orders were executed last week as part of the investigation. One of those was reportedly at a local business and at a property belonging to former Ward 4 Coun. Sean Chu.

Multiple outlets also report that a search warrant was executed at former mayor Jyoti Gondek’s home, with Gondek saying she is cooperating with police.

The RCMP Federal Policing NWR has confirmed to CityNews an investigation is ongoing. When reached for comment, CPS confirmed they referred a complaint to the Mounties last October.

Chabot says that when his devices were taken, he wasn’t asked any questions.

Chu’s lawyer, Shamsher Kothari, says in a statement that his client has been cooperative. He added that no charges have been laid and he is looking to a “swift conclusion” of the investigation.

Chabot is said to have retained defence lawyer Alain Hepner. CityNews has reached out to him for comment.

Mayor Jeromy Farkas didn’t have much to say about the investigation outside council chambers Tuesday.

“I’ve not been contacted by the police,” he told reporters. “Because this is an ongoing situation with legal implications I have no comment.”
