A ring of suspected thieves is facing more than 200 charges after police say they stole more than $96,000 worth of merchandise from Calgary businesses last year.
Investigators say between March and October 2025, with help from the RCMP and Lethbridge police, Calgary police uncovered a group of seven people believed to be responsible for 73 reported shoplifting incidents targeting Ace Liquor and TJX Canada stores.
Police believe the members of the group knew each other and worked together to commit the crimes.
“Shoplifting on this scale is not a crime of opportunity it is organized, deliberate, and it has a real impact on the safety and sustainability of businesses,” said District 2 Acting Insp. Darrin Chaplin. “Holding people accountable for these offences is essential to protecting our community and ensuring that those who repeatedly target Calgary retailers face meaningful consequences.”
