UCalgary to attempt world record for ‘most people dressed as dinosaurs’ at 60th anniversary

Hundreds of people are expected to gather on the campus of the University of Calgary Saturday to mark an important anniversary and attempt to break a Guinness World Record.
The post-secondary school is celebrating 60 years with a variety of events on April 11 — the most interesting of which is the effort to break the world record for the most people dressed as dinosaurs.
UCalgary’s mascot has historically been a dinosaur; first — “Dexter” and now his son, “Rex O’Saurus.”
School officials say an adjudicator from the Guinness World Records group will be on site to verify the number.
So far, organizers say 700 participants have registered. The current record on the books is 468.
A similar attempt was made in Drumheller back in 2024. Despite over 3,000 dinosaurs showing up to take part, a technicality prevented the title from being granted to the town. Travel Drumheller said at the time another attempt at the record was in the works.
UCalgary’s attempt to break the record will go at 11 a.m. in the TFDL Quad on the main campus at 2500 University Drive NW.
Other events taking place during the day include a keynote address by Olympic medallist Catriona Le May Doan, cupcakes, photo booths, archival exhibits, live music, campus tours, and more.
Parking for the event is free.
