Health officials are warning the public about a potential measles exposure at a south Calgary hotel.

The province says someone with the virus visited the Shawnessy Super 8 Hotel’s public areas over the course of several days.

Anyone who was at the hotel during the following periods may have been exposed:

  • May 7 – 3 p.m. to 11 p.m.
  • May 8 – 1 p.m. to 9 p.m.
  • May 9 – 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • May 10 – 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Officials say anyone born in or after 1970 who has fewer than two documented doses of a measles‑containing vaccine or has never had measles could be at risk. If you’re asked to watch for symptoms, please take precautions when seeking medical care and review your immunization records.

Measles is highly contagious and spreads easily through the air. Symptoms typically include a fever of 38.3°C or higher, cough, runny nose, red eyes, and a rash that appears 3–7 days after fever onset, beginning on the face and spreading downward. The rash may look red and blotchy on lighter skin tones and purple, darker, or subtle on darker skin tones.
