Three impaired driving crashes in three hours prompt Calgary police warning

Calgary police are sounding the alarm after three separate collisions involving suspected impaired drivers occurred within a three‑hour span Wednesday evening.
The crashes all resulted in arrests and are renewing calls from police for Calgarians to report unsafe drivers.
Police say the first crash happened around 7 p.m. on southbound Deerfoot Trail between 24 Street and Barlow Trail SE, where three vehicles collided and one rolled. The driver believed to be impaired was treated for minor injuries and arrested.
Just before 10 p.m., officers responded to another three‑vehicle collision at 88 Avenue and 52 Street NE, where one vehicle rolled. A driver was taken into custody for suspected impairment.
The third incident occurred at 10:20 p.m. at Centre Street N and 56 Avenue, involving several vehicles. Police arrested another driver for suspected impaired driving.
Investigators are asking anyone with dashcam footage of the incidents to contact them.
As of the end of April, officers have issued 761 immediate roadside sanctions and laid 32 Criminal Code impaired‑driving charges. Impairment is believed to be a factor in one of Calgary’s 11 fatal collisions this year.
Police urge residents to call 911 if they see a potentially impaired driver.
