Man charged in NE Calgary shooting; additional suspects sought

Calgary police have charged a man after a shooting early Sunday morning in the city’s northeast outside the Samosa House.

A man has been charged in connection with a shooting over the weekend in northeast Calgary, and police say they are still looking for more suspects.

Calgary police were called around 3 a.m. on Sunday to the Samosa House at 104 Avenue NE and Metis Trail after reports that a man had been shot.

Investigators believe the gunfire followed a fight outside the nearby Head Over Heels lounge in the same plaza. The victim was shot at but was not injured.

Witnesses reported seeing a grey 2019 Dodge Charger with Alberta plate CTJ 0073 speeding away from the plaza. With help from HAWCS, officers found the vehicle, stopped it and arrested the driver.

A loaded Canik TP9sfx 9mm handgun was seized from inside the car.

Police have charged Gurshish Singh Brar, 22, with discharging a firearm with intent and unauthorized possession of a firearm. He is scheduled to appear in court on Monday.

Investigators say they are still searching for two additional suspects, described as men between 20 and 30 years old. Police are releasing a photo of the recovered suspect vehicle for anyone who may have information but has not yet come forward.

The shooting was one of four reported in Calgary over the weekend. The city surpassed its five‑year average for shootings by March 10, with 23 incidents reported, compared with an average of 15 over the same period, according to a police commission report.

Thirty‑nine per cent of those shootings have been linked to extortion. As of Sunday, police say Calgary has recorded 39 shootings this year; the city saw 54 in all of 2025.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 403‑266‑1234 or leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers at 1‑800‑222‑8477.
