Alberta Parks is out with a warning for anyone headed west to the mountains this weekend.

A rock slide has closed parts of the Grassi Lakes trail system in Canmore until further notice, Alberta Parks officials say.

The agency says it happened in the Grassi Lakes area on Wednesday, affecting the Canmore Nordic Centre Provincial Park, Grassi Lakes Day Use, Grassi Lakes Interpretive Trail, Grassi Lakes Upper Trail, and Reclaimer Trail.

Officials say they are closing the Grassi Lakes Interpretive Trail, Grassi Lakes Upper Trail, and Reclaimer Trail as they assess the impact of the rockslide. The Riders of Rohan Trail nearby remains open.

Additionally, the road between the Grassi Lakes turnoff and the top of the hill is also closed due to the slide.

More information can be found on the Alberta Parks website.
