Man in 20s dies after motorcycle crash in Calgary

A man in 20s is dead after two separate motorcycle crash in Calgary over the weekend.

One incident happened on Barlow Trail near 37 Avenue NE at around 9 p.m. on Saturday

Two motorcyclists were headed south side-by-side on Barlow Trail and headed toward the 37 Avenue NE intersection, according to police. A white Kia Seltos was also on Barlow Trail and heading north.

When the driver of the Kia turned left, the two motorcyclists collided with the vehicle, flinging them from their bikes.

Police say the two motorcyclists were rushed to hospital suffering from serious, life-threatening injuries. Two passengers in the Kia were also taken to hospital for precautionary reasons, but the driver was uninjured.

In an update on Monday, police said a 24-year-old man who was one of the motorcyclist died from his injuries.

The other incident happened in the northeast at the end of Skyview Shores Manor at around 4:30 p.m., when a motorcyclist was heading west at the intersection on Skyview Shores Road.

Officers say a driver of a black Honda Pilot was also approaching the intersection, and pulling left onto it, when they collided with the motorcycle.

The motorcyclist was thrown from the bike. Police added that they were not wearing a helmet.

Officers say the driver of the motorcycle was rushed to hospital in serious, life-threatening condition, along with a passenger of the SUV, for precautionary reasons. The driver and another passenger in the Honda were uninjured.

Investigators believe speed is a factor in both cases.
