Man wanted in stolen vehicle incident faces 37 charges: police

A new official ‘Alberta Whisky’ logo has been launched that will help consumers identify authentic, made-in-Alberta whisky while promoting the industry’s reputation at home and abroad. Henna Saeed reports.

A man wanted on 21 warrants and connected to a stolen vehicle incident while evading police is facing charges, Calgary police say.

It happened on June 17 when the police auto theft team found a stolen 2012 Toyota Corolla in northwest Capitol Hill.

Officers scoped out the location and found a man parking the Corolla inside a garage at a home in Hawkwood the next day.

After police “contained” the Hawkwood home, they took the suspect into custody.

Investigators say a search warrant for the home led them to the stolen Corolla, keys, and the original license plate.

Dustin Andrew Sklerek, 39, now faces 16 charges alongside 21 outstanding warrants — one of those for removing his electronic monitoring bracelet.

The new charges include possession of stolen property over $5,000, driving while prohibited, fraudulent concealment, 10 counts of failure to comply with a release order, and driving an uninsured vehicle. Sklerek was slated for court on Monday.

Police ask anyone with information about this incident to call them at 403-266-1234 or leave a tip anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
