Authorities respond to pair of fires in NE Calgary within kilometres

Two fires burned in northeast Calgary within 10 kilometres of each other causing plumes of noticeable black smoke to fill the sky Tuesday night.
The first blaze responded to by crews was a house fire in the 200 block of Bedford Place NE at about 6:25 p.m.
“The fire destroyed the source garage, ” says public information officer Alex Kwan with the Calgary Fire Department, “(it) did spread somewhat to the exterior of the home.”
Kwan says crews were able to knock down the fire after setting up a water tower.
A pair of cats were rescued and one individual was treated for smoke inhalation.
Just 10 minutes after receiving the house fire report, authorities took another call about a structure fire off of 16 St. NE, involving a business undergoing work.
Kwan says, “when our crews arrived on scene there were workers on the roof that quickly self evacuated because the flames and heavy smoke coming from the roof area.”
No one was injured in the fire.
