Alberta landscaping company fined $318K in worker’s 2023 death at Edmonton construction site

An Alberta landscaping company has been fined $318,000 after a worker died falling through a roof at a construction site in Edmonton in 2023.

Arbutus Landscaping Inc. pleaded guilty last week for “failing to establish a system or process” under the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Act. Other charges against the company were withdrawn.

The fatal incident happened Dec. 11, 2023.

A roofing company, Albatross Roofing Ltd., was charged with OHS offences related to the same incident and will be sentenced next month.
