The author behind a children’s book-turned-stage-play was in the city Sunday to watch her creation performed in front of two sold out crowds at the University of Calgary theatre.
Dini Petty wrote The Queen, the Bear and the Bumblebee and tells 660News, she actually had a difficult time getting the book published.
“When I first tried to get it published, I was told, ‘you can’t teach morals to children.’ I was like okay,” she says.
The book was eventually published in 2000, and was then adapted into a stage musical and first presented in the Imperial Room at the Royal York Hotel in Toronto.
Petty says the moral of the story is to “be who you are”.
