The number of parking spaces for taxi-cabs in Calgary’s core could more than double if cabbies were allowed to park next to fire hydrants.
According to the Calgary Sun, a city committee will see a report on Wednesday recommending the move.
Since there’s such high demand for short-term parking, the report suggests cabbies could park at 91 of the 195 fire hydrants.
It would create about 200 new taxi spaces on top of the current 61.
Drivers would be required to stay either in their vehicle or close to it in case a fire truck needs them to move.
