Vermillion Lakes Road in Banff National Park has once again re-opened following the discovery of human remains made by officers Wednesday.
Mounties were doing a grid search of the area after human remains were found along the scenic road back on April 5th.
It was their first chance to get a good look at the area given the amount of snow that had been on the ground.
Forensic investigators have confirmed the discovery last month is human, but it’s still unclear if the other bones found recently are even related.
“That is a possibility, but as of right now we are keeping all of our investigational avenues open and this case is being treated on its own for now. These bones are being processed by the RCMP Calgary Forensic Identification Section and they’re being sent to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for further examination,” says Media Resources Officer Corporal Chris Kosack.
The recent set of bones were found by members of the Tactical Unit.
Banff RCMP kept the 4.3 kilometre stretch closed for several hours, they are continuing to investigate alongside the Calgary Major Crimes Unit.
These two cases are not the only open human remains files found at the detachment; two hikers recently came across a human skull found at the base of Cascade Mountain back in August.
