ATV study prompts call for mandatory helmets

A local trauma surgeon wants to see mandatory helmet use for ATV riders.
Dr. Richard Buckley is also calling for better checks on those who drink and then ride their quads.
He says both efforts would curb bad decision making, which leads to most injury crashes.
His study, released Tuesday, finds that about one in five ATV crashes in Alberta is deadly.
That’s eight times higher than the death rate for car crashes in this province.
