Calgary police have charged a man following the two hour stand off at a south west school yesterday.
Just before 2 p.m. Thursday, a man walked into A. E. Cross School holding a knife. He threatened two staff members with the weapon.
A male former teacher of the man managed to get away and alert the rest of the school, but the female secretary was held against her will.
At the same time, a 13-year-old boy was also in the administration offices, out of sight of the suspect. The teen called his mother who then called police.
Police negotiated with the suspect, who eventually let the secretary go and gave himself up.
The woman wasn’t injured, but was distraught.
25-year-old Matthew Akani Adeniran has been charged with numerous offences including forcible confinement, assault with a weapon, uttering threats, criminal harassment and possession of a weapon.
He’s scheduled to be in court Monday.
