The Canada Border Services Agency is issuing a reminder to travellers returning from the U.S. this holiday season.
If you’re planning on bringing back some parcels make sure you have your receipts and know the contents and value before heading back.
Communications Officer Luke Reimer says you should also save the ribbons and bows for later.
“Ensure that the gifts are unwrapped when crossing the border and that’s because our Border Services officers may need to open those packages to verify your declaration. So, it just makes it that much faster and easier for everyone for those to be unwrapped when you come to the border,” he said.
Reimer explains failing to make a proper declaration can contribute to longer wait times and could lead to a fine or even a criminal charge.
