Alberta adds fourth area code starting in April

A fourth area code is being introduced in Alberta starting in April.

The Western Telecommunications Alliance says the new 825 prefix will be phased in gradually across the province as the supply of the 403, 780 and 587 codes are used up.

It’s encouraging businesses to look into whether they need to make any changes to their phone equipment to ensure a seamless transition.

It says, for example, that businesses that restrict long distance calls will need to reprogram their equipment to accept the 825 area code as local.
