Travel agents swamped

Travel agents in Calgary are working overtime because of the massive flight disruptions caused by ash from a volcanic eruption in Iceland.

Thousands of flights in and out of the UK and many parts of Europe have been grounded as the cloud of ash makes air travel too dangerous.

The Travel Lady, Lesley Keyter tells 660News, she’s trying to help clients whose flights to Europe have been cancelled, and those who are stuck in other parts of the world.

For example, six vacationers from Calgary are waiting to get home from Cape Town, South Africa. “The latest news was they were supposed to fly out yesterday, but the first available flight is on the 25th of April.  So, they’ve got 10 days they have to look after themselves.”

She says it highlights the importance of travel insurance.

Keyter adds, even when air travel resumes over all of Europe, it’s going to be organized travel chaos for days after.
