Flames fans celebrate six more years of Johnny Gaudreau

Johnny Gaudreau helped make it an extra special last day of the Thanksgiving long weekend for Calgary Flames fans by signing a six-year contract extension with the team on Monday.

The contract is worth a total of $40.5 million, which averages out to $6.75 million a year.

The 23-year-old Salem, New Jersey native has played two full seasons with the Flames, and finished last season with 30 goals, 48 assists and a total of 78 points. He was also in the top 10 for points in the NHL.

In just three games at this year’s World Cup of Hockey, Gaudreau impressed many by tallying two goals and two assists in just three games with Team North America.

Gaudreau released a statement on Twitter, saying he wants to be there for his teammates and fans in Calgary.

The Flames regular season kicks off this Wednesday, when the Flames visit the Edmonton Oilers at the newly built Rogers Arena. The Flames home opener is on Friday, also against the Oilers.
