Freed journalist Amanda Lindhout has released her first statement since coming home to Alberta.
The 28 year-old begins with just three words — ‘home at last!’ — and goes on to say it feels wonderful to be back in Canada, without a doubt the best country in the world.
Lindhout and Australian photographer Nigel Brennan were held captive under sometimes brutal conditions for 15 months in Somalia until their release last month.
She thanks Brennan and several people including her family and what she calls her home community of Calgary.
Lindhout credits two local businessmen, Michael Going and Steve Allan, with having incredible courage to become trustee’s of the Amanda Lindhout Trust Fund and saving her life without ever having met her.
