New library opens in SE Calgary

CALGARY (660 NEWS) — Calgarians in the southeast are celebrating the opening of a new 25,000-square-foot public library and early learning centre. Seton Library at the Brookfield Residential YMCA is the third largest library in the city, serving a growing population in the southeast end of the city.

“We’ve not really had the resources down here to serve as many families and people that live here,” he said. “They’ve had to go to the Fish Creek Library, or come down to the Central Library. Ultimately this area is going to be served by the C-train when the green line is finished, so it’s an ideal location.”

The demand for early learning is growing with more than 89,000 kids under the age of five in Calgary. Now, children will have a unique place to learn.

“It’s the only place that has a helicopter in it,” Bill Ptacek, CEO of the Calgary Public Library, said. “It’s on loan from the Hangar Flight Museum. It’s for kids to play and they can work all the dials and buttons in the helicopter.”

A teen centre, study space, bookable meeting rooms, and auditorium, are just a few of the free services available at the new library.
