Traffic changes on Crowchild, more congestion expected

CALGARY (660 NEWS) — Major changes to Crowchild Trail this weekend is expected to cause some delays.

The work starts at 10 p.m. on Friday and will wrap up by 5 a.m. on Monday.

It’s the first traffic switch of the year and includes single-lane traffic in both directions over the Bow River, lane re-alignments and a new exit.

“The big thing to note is the relocation of the exit point from northbound Crowchild to east and westbound Memorial Drive will be moved about 50 metres south, so it will be sooner for drivers approaching it,” said Jeff Baird, Crowchild Trail project manager.

Baird adds it will make it a bit more challenging for drivers to get from 10th Avenue or the Bow Trail ramps over to Memorial Drive.

“Everybody out there on the roads please drive courteously, drive safely, share the road as it will be a bit harder to get through that area,” Baird said.

There will also be a lane closure for the Scotiabank Calgary Marathon on Sunday.

It’s expected that more of these traffic changes will happen throughout the summer and into the fall.

The project is on time to be complete by the end of 2019.
