Calgary police see jump in public urination: ‘But it’s Stampede, bro!’

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – Calgary police are reporting that during the 10 days of the Stampede, they are seeing an increase in public urination cases.
Constable Chris Martin said that during Stampede people tend to think that the rules don’t apply.
“During the rest of the year we see maybe one or two cases of public urination, but during Stampede we can see two cases a shift,” Martin said.
Martin added that police hear a multitude of excuses on why people are urinating in public.
“The one excuse we heard yesterday is ‘it’s Stampede, bro,’ which okay yes it is,” Martin said. “This is also someone’s business or home, or community where they live with their family, so we all have to remember public decency.”
Martin said that there are several charges that police can hand out.
“The standard ticket falls under the public behaviour bylaw and has a price tag of $300.”
Martin adds that Calgary police are urging Calgarians and visitors to be respectful of the city and others.
