CALGARY — While the wait continues to get shovels in the ground for the Green Line LRT project, another concern has been raised.
In a council meeting on Wednesday, the developer says the rising cost for materials and getting the line through the downtown core has caused some worry for Remington Development Corporation.
The Green Line Committee chair and Coun. Shane Keating says you have to look at the cost of the project as a whole instead of breaking it down.

“The big issue is we have to make sure that we’re looking at the complete line in totality rather than segments. There is no doubt that one segment would be cheaper than another segment.
“You’ve got to look at the line all the way from the Elbow River to where it curves into Second Street which goes under the CPR tracks. And, if you compare that whole line, that’s the detail that we need. Looking at portions of it may not give you the complete picture,” Keating said.
But Remington believes since the provincial government also had some original concerns with parts of the plan, the city should revisit the updated version.
Coun. Keating says those issues have been resolved as the government has been in constant communication over the past few months to iron out any problems they had.

“I would say all of the issues have been smoothed out, all of the issues — to my understanding — have stayed exactly as they were a year-and-a-half ago,” he added as honest discussions have brought them to an understanding.
Coun. Keating will not be seeking re-election this fall, but he’s not concerned about the fate of the line after speaking with a few of the candidates and others vying for seats on council.
“Anyone who isn’t full-blown dedicated to get this thing done is going to lose their seat, in my mind.”
