In a 7-6 vote on Friday afternoon, councillors decided to end the bylaw that required the masks to be mandatory, on July 1.

The indoor requirement previously meant people had to wear masks in retail stores, restaurants and recreation centres, in line with the provincial orders.
Masks will still be required on transit, taxis, and vehicle-for-hire services, as part of a province-wide directive from Dr. Deena Hinshaw.
The Mask Bylaw has been suspended in #yeg for July 1st. The province will still have some rules for masking in the City of Edmonton, and that information can be found at https://t.co/kX4WWHfpQW

Edmonton council first passed the mask bylaw in August of last year, when the province left the authority up to each municipality.
