New faces at City Hall: Ward 1’s Sonya Sharp

New to city council, but not to city hall, Ward 1’s new councillor Sonya Sharp knows how to get things done.
With 20 years of experience with the city, most recently as leader for business and local economy, Sharp has worked in many departments through the years.

“Other than during budget time and finances, most councillors will be dealing with planning and roads more than any other department. I spent a chunk of my career in those areas. It’s also understanding how to navigate the system.”
Armed with this insight, Sharp is ready to help her fellow colleagues as they tackle the many issues facing the city, as well as the smaller ones. Sharp plans to make her ward’s needs her top priority.

“There are a lot of things that need some attention, public safety on a bunch of streets, communication. Those are really important right now. I’ve got all the communities laid out, and the top issues. What can I work with the general managers on that are easier to get completed?”
The lifelong Ward 1 resident quit her city job to run for the council seat because she felt she could have a greater impact to make change with the role.
