IN PICTURES: Calgary Flames fans show off just how dedicated they are

With the Calgary Flames in the post-season the Red Mile is alive and well. But it’s not the only place you’ll find diehard Flames fans.

CityNews reached out to fans, asking them to show us their dedication for the team and the responses did not disappoint, from tattoos to entire Flames-themed rooms.

Eric McComish might be considered one of the biggest Flames fans. The born-and-raised Calgarian got a flaming C tattoo with a bit of a bold prediction.

The best part is that his prediction was inked in November, far before the Flames even made the playoffs.

“I think we had won four or five in a row and I had been planning to get this Stanley Cup Champions Flames tattoo for like five years and I was like for some reason this is the year. So I believe it was November 3rd I went to my buddy Max Gerchikov at Blackbird Electric Tattoo and I got the tattoo, and underneath the Flames logo I got ‘2022 Stanley Cup Champions,'” said McComish.

If the Flames don’t win the Cup as he predicts, McComish isn’t too worried.

“I think I would just cross out the year and then get the year that they actually win the Cup, if they win when I’m alive.”

He’s not the only one who has permanently declared his love for the team, either. Many other fans have shared images of their own Flames-themed ink.

Other fans have opted for something a little less permanent. One person who wants to be identified by his online handle, @NiftyCrispy, has a basement decked out in Flames memorabilia. He is from Calgary but lives in Edmonton and says his friends hate coming to watch the battle of Alberta at his place.

Meanwhile, Tyler Van Dusen has put a lot of work into his Flames-themed basement in Cardston, Alta. He’s a lifelong Flames fan and stenciled the flaming C all over his wall to create a wallpaper-like effect. He created just about every part of his setup, including the Blasty.

“It started with Blasty and then a little bit added and a little bit added and now this is what we’ve got,” Van Dusen said.

Van Dusen’s basement also includes an official goal light, which lights up every time the team scores.

Other fans who CityNews found might not have entire rooms dedicated to the team, but their love of the Flames fills up their closets.

Chris Wilson has been a Flames fan since he was young. But like many others, the playoff run of 2004 is what really got him into the team.

He’s been collecting jerseys for well over a decade and his collection includes every single one the Flames have ever worn.

Chris Wilson’s jersey collection features every single jersey the Flames have worn, including jerseys from the Atlanta Flames days.

Wilson’s jersey collection goes beyond just the Flames — he’s now picked up a jersey from every single professional Calgary sports team, including a 1924 Calgary Tigers Jersey and a 1950’s Stampeders jersey.

Ed Robertson also owns a large jersey collection, with about 30 different Flames uniforms.
