A 15-year-old defender from the Burnaby Winter Club U-15 team has made history. Chloe Primerano has become the first-ever female skater to be selected in a WHL Bantam Draft, after being selected by the Vancouver Giants.
Born in 2007, Primerano was drafted 268th overall by the Giants on Thursday.
“I was driving home from school with my mom in the car and I was just praying for it, and it just happened. I was in shock honestly,” said Primerano of the moment she was picked.
With the 268th overall selection (Round 13) the Vancouver Giants have selected 2007-born defender Chloe Primerano (North Vancouver, BC) in the 2022 @TheWHL Prospects Draft.

She is the first-ever female player to be selected in a WHL Bantam Draft, the team notes.
“The first thing that stands out about Chloe is her skating,” WHL Hockey Operations manager Taylor Green said of the North Vancouver player. “She is efficient in her movements and uses this to her advantage specifically on defense, allowing her to play sound positional hockey and rarely finds herself out of position.”
Green says Primerano had “an excellent season with the Burnaby Winter Club, earning herself this historic selection in the 2022 WHL prospects Draft.”
“Chloe’s play this season in the top U15 league in Canada made her fully deserving of this selection today.
“The Vancouver Giants are happy to recognize her strong play by drafting her to the Western Hockey League.”

Primerano describes herself as “a two-way defenceman” who puts her all on the ice. She credits her family’s ongoing support throughout her playing career so far for where she is.
Despite being drafted, Primerano says she knows there’s still hard work to do.
“Just getting drafted, you’ve got to keep working hard, you can’t stop working hard and just keep pushing through every day.”
