‘Crisp’ mornings, ‘fantastic’ afternoons: Calgary’s first few weeks of fall will be mild

Don’t put away your shorts just yet.

As fall begins Thursday, there are still some warm days in the forecast for the city of Calgary.

CityNews Meteorologist Michael Kuss says it should be an easy transition from summer to fall, with milder temperatures and generally dry weather.

“Crisp, potentially frosty mornings, but fantastic sunny afternoons, that’s what we’re looking at medium-range,” Kuss explained.

He says relatively mild days are expected for at least the next couple of weeks, maybe longer.

In the short-term, Kuss notes Calgarians can expect genuinely warm weather.

“We are going to get a bit of a burst of heat into the weekend and the early parts of next week, but we’re going to moderate back towards seasonal,” he said.

“By next week, that’s highs around 14 degrees, lows down near freezing. We’ll likely see some frost within the next couple of weeks, but it’s not cold and not a lot of precipitation in there over at least the first month of fall.”

Looking ahead, Kuss says it looks like we’re in for a “La Niña winter,” meaning it will be an even snowier, colder season than Calgarians are used to.
