Elderly hiker found dead after week-long search near Waterton Lakes

An elderly B.C. man has been found dead following a seven-day search effort in Waterton Lakes National Park.
RCMP say they were notified on July 23 that an 81-year-old hiker from Golden, B.C., had failed to arrive at his planned destination at the town of Coleman in the Crowsnest Pass.
The man began his trip on July 16 at about 11 a.m. on the Alderson-Carthew Summit Trail in Waterton. Mounties say he intended to continue along the Great Divide Trail and complete his hike in Coleman on July 22.
His reported him missing when he did not arrive.
The RCMP and Parks Canada coordinated search efforts that included drone operators, air services, and police dog units.
Searchers eventually found the man’s body on July 30.
No further details about the circumstances surrounding his death have been made available.
