Calgary police lay charges in Shawn McCormack homicide

Calgary police laid charges against a woman Friday in relation to a homicide that happened this summer.
Police received calls about a body in an alley in the Upper Mount Royal area, in the city’s southwest, early in the morning on July 3.
CPS later confirmed the victim was 34-year-old Shawn Garry McCormack, with investigators saying the incident was targeted.
Investigators believe he was killed in the Forest Lawn neighbourhood.
Police say 44-year-old Calgary woman Laura Lavorato is facing one count each of manslaughter and possession of a loaded prohibited firearm in connection with McCormack’s death.
She is set to appear in court Monday, Nov. 14.

The latest arrest comes after police charged Calgary man Devon William Shedrick with first-degree murder. He was taken into custody in late September.
Officers have also asked for the public’s help in finding 30-year-old Justin Aaron Cornell because they believe he has information about the homicide.
