Calgary Roughnecks defeat Halifax Thunderbirds 12-11 in overtime

The Calgary Roughnecks bested the Thunderbirds 12-11 in overtime in National Lacrosse League action in Halifax Saturday night.

Calgary came back from an 11-7 deficit in the third quarter, scoring four unanswered goals to force overtime — including Dan Taylor’s equalizer with 18 seconds left on the clock.

Jeff Cornwall then netted the winner nine seconds into OT.

Calgary improved to 4-3 on the season, good for fourth place in the west.

The game was tied 4-4 after the first quarter, with Halifax pulling ahead 8-5 by halftime.

After going down 11-7 in the third, the Roughnecks held the Thunderbirds off the scoresheet for the remaining 18:29 in the game plus overtime.

Zach Currier had a hat trick for Calgary, while Cornwall, Haiden Dickson and Tanner Cook each netted two apiece. Captain Jesse King managed four assists for a team-high four points.

Calgary heads home for back-to-back games against the Saskatchewan Rush Friday, and the Colorado Mammoth next Saturday.
